The project involved structurally supporting 80% of the existing character house, while excavating the basement to create additional space. Added to this was a driveway so tight that site foreman Josh ‘I’ve got plenty of room’ Dickson smashed a taillight on the Steadfast truck the first time he backed down it.
Given the project’s complexity, thinking on your feet was a skill in high demand, as was collaboration. We worked closely with structural engineers to create a bracing strategy that supported the house during the work – and through Devonport’s first tornado. We also worked closely with renowned architect Keith Humphries, including devising a particularly innovative, yet robust, weathertightness approach. The team also kept neighbours closely informed of the project and took steps to proactively minimise any disruption.
Inside the house, the team appreciated the opportunity to include materials recycled from demolition work being undertaken in Christchurch. These items had sentimental value for Zane & Gabe and helped them feel immediately comfortable within the new addition to their home.
From our first meeting, through to the completion of our project Steadfast were nothing but professional with high quality workmanship. Their can-do attitude made our daunting renovation an achievable project. Josh and Matt guided us through the process, with regular budget and progress meetings, suggestions, quotes, options when needed, and a determined approach to find the best solution to any challenges that cropped up along the way. With Steadfast’s proactive project management, the neighbour was kept well informed of deliveries and contractor access and as a result no complaints arose. Zane & Gabe, Clients
