Alex & Emily’s New Home
Alex & Emily are two people many of our clients can relate to, with a young family and a budget set in stone, they were after builders they could trust and a home that was built to last.
Located in Auckland’s beautiful but remote South Head, delivering on the clients vision was always going to take careful management. To achieve this we prioritised fortnightly construction meetings throughout the build. These meetings not only gave us the opportunity to report on progress but also provided a medium to discuss a number of options that could deliver cost savings and add value to the project.
Ideas we implemented as a result included carefully procuring materials so that onsite delivery could be done as efficiently as possible, the installation of a wetback & solar heating system that reduces energy bills, and the use of macrocarpa for the decking timber. Macrocarpa is generally considered to be harder to work with from a building point of view, but is a more sustainable & cost-efficient option to traditional hard woods. We also suggested utilising a steel beam to allow a fully opening bi-fold door which provides uninterrupted views of the Kaipara.
Steadfast recommended we consider a large single bi-fold instead so that the whole wall could open up rather than having a single beam down the centre of our view. We took Steadfastʼs advice and are extremely grateful as the end result is absolutely brilliant and one of the main features of our home. Emily, Client
One of the reasons Alex & Emily chose Steadfast was our belief that building a home is a personal process. So in addition to keeping them informed throughout the project, we also looked for opportunities to get them involved. One way we did this was working with Alex to lay the bamboo flooring, not only was this more cost-efficient, but it provided a sense of engagement with the process. The end result is a beautiful home that takes advantages of the unique site and built exactly the way Alex & Emily wanted it.
At the end of the day in every aspect of the build four things mattered to me as a client the most and they were; what will it look like, what is the quality, how long will it take and how much will it cost. Steadfast hit the target on all four. Alex, Client
